Imaginative Prayer

Little kids use their imaginations all the time- boy becomes a ninja fighter or a girl becomes a princess. God gave them wonderful imaginations to help them get a taste of what it like to be creative and to dream.

Imagine that God gave you an imagination, too. He gave you that imagination to help you be creative and to dream. AND to pray.

There is a very old type of prayer called Lectio Devina. As part of the Lectio Devina process, the person who is praying uses his imagination. This is how it works:

1- He reads a Bible story.

2- He stops and thinks over the story.

3- Using his imagination, he pictures the story- the sights and sounds and events of the story.

4- He then imagines himself into the story. What would he feel, what would he do?

To conclude, he asks God what he should learn from the imaginative experience.

Try reading a story from the Gospels or Acts. Then have an adventure with some imaginative prayer.
