Fasting and the Infection of Satan

Posted by vicki on Apr 13, 2011 in Fasting stuff |

You have an enemy. His name is Satan.

By now, your enemy has figured out that you are serious about this time of fasting.

Not good news for him. He’s about to loose some strongholds in your life and find them weaker around other folks.

This means war.

He is going to try to get you to give up on the fast. “Why fast? Isn’t a week long enough? Really, aren’t the pastors unreasonable to ask 3 weeks? What good is it doing anyway? And you miss____!”

Have you heard any of those thoughts in your own mind? They are not your thoughts: they are like viruses attacking from outside you. The infection of Satan.

The problem is that Satan already had an open door to get those thoughts into you. It is your own lust.

Just like our physical bodies. If we have a weakened immune system because we have done bad things to ourselves (too much sugar, too little activity, things like that…), we are more prone to getting sick.

If we have lusts in our mind or spirit for things not good for us (too much sugar, too much selfishness, too little activity, too little prayer), we are more prone to Satan’s temptations.

SO, here are some suggestions:

1- Read James 1 until it passes.

2- Ask for wisdom.

3- Hold onto faith.

4- Grow faith by implanting God’s Word into your soul (read and meditate on Scripture)

5- Actively look for the gifts God is placing around and in you.

6- Be swift to hear God.

7- Be slow to speak.

8- Be slow to wrath.

9- Don’t act on wicked thoughts.

10- Give thought to the “law of liberty” (the freedom that Christ has given you to live as his sibling and heir).

11- Do kindnesses for those in need (especially the fatherless).

Hang in there, keep your spiritual immune system up, and watch what God does next!
